Nuh
Considered the first messenger out of 5 in Human history. A whole chapter is dedicated to his mission as he was mentioned 43 times in the Qur'an. Alike the Biblical version, Prophet Nuh had to spread the remembrance of God through his call 'I have come to you as a plain warner. That you worship none but Allah; surely, I fear for you the torment of a painful Day.' However his community went against it 'Oh Nuh! You have disputed with us and much have you prolonged the dispute with us, now bring upon us what you threaten us with, if you are of the truthful.' Prophet Nuh grieved from the reaction of his people upon which God revealed to him 'And it was revealed to Nuh:"None of your people will believe except those who have believed already. So be not sad because of what they used to do. And construct the ship under Our Eyes and with Our Revelation, and call not upon Me on behalf of those who did wrong, they are surely to be drowned." 11:25-27. It is then, that Prophet Nuh began to construct the ship.
Scholars localized Nuh's community in Southern Iraq, near the city of Kufa. Some other scholars relate the ruin of the City of Ur to belong to the age of Prophet Nuh as few excavations proved the presence of a flood.
'So, We opened the gates of heaven
with water pouring forth. And We caused
springs to gush forth from the earth.
So, the waters (of the heaven and the
earth) met for a matter predestined.' 54: 9-16
Legends say that the fountain in the Grand
Mosque of Kufa, called by the name
Maqam-Toofan Nooh, could have been
where a spring of water burst out causing
the flood to wipe out the Human on earth.
Prophet Nuh was then commanded
'Board the Ark. In the name of God it
shall sail and anchor.'(...) It sailed with
them on waves like mountains.' 11:41. It is
unknown how long the Ark float,
'Then it was said, 'Earth, swallow up your
water, and sky, hold back,' and the water
subsided, the command was fulfilled.
The Ark settled on Mount Judi. (..) And
it was said, ' Noah, descend in peace
from Us, with blessings (...).' 11:41.
As narrated from the Qur'an, the Ark settled in Mount Judi, present-day Turkey. A wide shape between the mounts of Eastern Turkey seems to prove the evidence of an abandoned ship. Several researchers agree with the theory that the shape found in the area of Mount Judi coincides with the narration of the Holy Scriptures. Except for a shrine in central Jordan supposedly hold the tomb of Prophet Nuh, no other localisation proves the existence of Nuh's life. And God knows best.
