Adam
Prophet Adam is mentioned in the Qur'an a total of 25 times, some events of his life are well explained in the Qur'an. From the reasons of his creation, 'Verily, when your Lord told the Angels, 'I am putting a successor on earth' to the fact that his education was given directly from God, 'He taught Adam all the names.' God also tells us about prophet Adam’s encounter with the angels, 'Then He showed (the names of things) to them (angels) and said, 'Tell me the names of these if you truly think you can”. They said, 'May You be glorified! We have knowledge of only what You have taught us (...). Then He said, 'Adam, tell them the names of these.’ God's advice against Satan: 'Oh Adam, verily this is an enemy to you and your wife.’ 2: 30-38 What caused Adam's fall from Paradise, 'Then they both ate from the tree.' His repentance: 'Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if you do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.' Finally God's judgement upon prophet Adam's misbehaviour: 'Get you down, all, with enmity between yourselves, On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time.' 20:115-123
Prophet Adam's lifetime on earth can possibly be backtracked with the help of some medieval narrations.Ibn Abbas stipulates 3 different places where prophet’s Adam, his wife Hawa (Eve), Satan and the snake could possibly have landed on earth.
(1) In Djanah, a place located between Mecca and At-Ta'if.
(2) At As-safa and Hawwa in Al-Marwah (popular mountains in Mecca because of the story of prophet Ismael and his mother).
(3) Prophet Adam landed somewhere in India and Hawa landed in Jeddah (City in Arabi Saoudi), and met in Muzdalifah (a place near Mecca).
Journey to Sri Lanka
The first two possibilities could not be proven as there were no existential sites or remains in those areas that could indicate the opposite. As for the last narration, we have attempted to localize a site in South Asia that could likely prove where prophet Adam first touched planet Earth. An interesting site is located in the South of Sri Lanka, ' The Peak of Adam / Sri Pada ',a holy mount with 2,249m of altitude, on top of the mount, a Buddhist temple hide a large footprint. Some believe it to be the feet of Buddha, some believe it as Hanuman’s (Hindu God). Christian refers to the footprint as St Thomas, and Muslims believe it to be the footprint of prophet Adam. His first step might have been graved on a rock due to the impact of the first ever contact between Human and Earth. Prophet Adam might have presumably landed on top of Sri Pada, walked down looking for his wife Hawa.Because of that India and Sri Lanka were once a unique land, a popular legend of 'the Bridge of Adam / Rama Setu', a chain of limestone that connects South of India and North of Sri Lanka, indicate that Adam might have used this natural bridge to join his wife Hawa who was in Jeddah. The name Jeddah refers to the Arabic etymology and means 'Grand-mother', a paying homage to the first ever woman inhabiting the area.
